Pres. Pena Nieto Meets With Returning Deportees, Offers Help

President Peña Nieto went to the airport Tuesday to meet with a bunch of people being deported from the U.S. He met with them in a private room for around an hour, an assured them they would be provided jobs and assistance to rebuild their lives.

...They are not alone, do not feel abandoned, the doors of this house will always be open," Peña Nieto told the group of deportees, according to the press release sent by the Mexican Presidency.

Wish we had a man in charge who felt that way.

Rudy Giuliani Claims Credit for Trump's Muslim Ban

Rudy Giuliani thinks he's the king of anti-terrorism. So reluctant is he to let anyone forget he was Mayor during 9/11, today he claimed Trump asked him to form a commission to come up with a way to legally ban Muslims from America.

He says he formed the commission with Republican U.S. congressman Peter King and one of Bush's many former Attorney Generals, Michael Mukasey. (Mukasey's son and Rudy Giuliani are law partners.)

Problem is, Peter King denies it and says Rudy is confused: [More...]

Denver Post Editorial Calls Donald Trump a Liar

The Denver Post minces no words in its editorial yesterday, Lying Donald Trump can’t be trusted, and that needs to stop now.

The president of the United States needs to demand of himself and of his staff that comments presented to the American people can be trusted and supported by legitimate — and not “alternative” — facts.

Without that basic level of trust, the very functioning of our federal government and our nation will be at risk....his actions betray a terrible failing, a deep character flaw within the new president that cannot be excused as campaign bluster.

Americans won’t be led by a man who works through manipulation and falsehood.

The Trump Org needs to reject its latest poppycock idea of opening a Trump hotel in Denver. Not only will it be boycotted, so will properties of local investors in and supporters of the project. Denverites voted overwhelmingly against Trump. Let them try Colorado Springs. Or a bed and breakfast in Alamosa or somewhere similar they can find a few people who won't revolt over the idea.[More...]

So Many Protesters, Not Enough Room in the Streets

Photo from Washington Post

This is truly mind-boggling. More than 5 million people participated in 673 marches in 75 countries around the globe today for gender rights, human rights, immigrant rights and justice, and in opposition to the positions espoused by Donald Trump.

More than 5 million people around the world took to the streets in peaceful demonstrations on all seven continents, launching a new movement for human rights, women’s rights and justice.
500,000 turned out in Washington, so many that there wasn't enough room in the streets to let them march to the White House.

100 MPH Winds in Colorado Springs

I thought the winds were bad here Christmas Day, but yesterday they were just outrageous. They hit 100 mph in Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Springs Airport recorded an all-time record wind gust of 80 mph at 12:02 p.m. and a gust of 101 mph was recorded at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station earlier in the day.

The El Paso County Courthouse was evacuated and closed for the day after the powerful gusts ripped chunks of roofing from the top of the 5-story building. Tejon Street and Vermijo Street were closed, and deputies used shields to protect people from the debris as they escorted them out of the building. The courthouse is scheduled to reopen at noon Tuesday.

The photo above is from a news video (available here) that aired on KRDO, Channel 13, the local ABC affiliate in the Springs. The good stuff starts at 39 seconds in, after the reporters stop yakking. In the video you can see the wheels lifting off the ground as the truck sways on the highway.

There's also a viewer taken short clip in the video of a big tree going from standing upright, to swaying, to boom, it's yanked out from the ground by its roots. Below are screengrabs of the three stages. [More...]

Cashing In on Pablo Escobar's Death

It was 23 years ago today that Pablo Escobar was assassinated on a rooftop in Medellin, Colombia.

Ex-DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Pena, who served as consultants to the series Narcos, are still cashing in, now embarking on a world tour. Next stop: Australia.

Mr Pena and fellow former agent Steve Murphy are coming to Australia for a series of live shows next year, called "Capturing Pablo: An Evening with Javier Pena and Steve Murphy." They'll be speaking at Hamer Hall on Thursday, July 13.

The Australian media has the false impression they were involved in the killing of Escobar, which is simply not true. [More...]

GrubHub Tells Trump Supporters They Can Quit

I've always liked Grubhub. They are reliable, fast and have the largest selection of Denver delivery places around, and never once have they gotten an order wrong or delivered later than they promised.

Today I like them more.

The CEO of Grubhub, an online food delivery service, sent a company wide email Wednesday suggesting employees who agree with President-elect Donald Trump’s behaviors and his campaign rhetoric should resign.

“If you do not agree with this statement then please reply to this email with your resignation because you have no place here,” wrote Matt Maloney, Co-Founder of Grubhub. “We do not tolerate hateful attitudes on our team."

Check and see if Grubhub is in your City. We should patronize businesses that stick up for our core values.

Post Apocalyspse: Day Two

Rudy Giuliani campaigns for the job of Attorney General on TV. He's not in favor of prosecuting Clinton or pardoning her. (She doesn't need a pardon, she committed no crime. How about talking about Rudy and FBI leaks)?

Neither Rudy nor Christie should be AG. [More...]

Trump Supporter's Racist Rant Goes Viral

This racist rant by a Trump supporter in Memphis at a young black man who cut him off in traffic is just astonishing. It's also going viral. It had 2 million views in 12 hours. FB took it down but other copies are out there.

Update: Trevor Noah of the Daily Show picks up on and spreads the video on Twitter.

The man has been identified and his address published on Twitter. The local news station posted a photo of his house, without the address or neighborhood. His license plate was viewable in the video, not too hard to do.

The Justice Department will be monitoring votes in 28 states. One of the places to be monitored: Shelby County (Memphis) TN (no link for CBS due to autoplay video.)

Answering Trump: What Do You Have to Lose?

At a campaign rally over the weekend, Donald Trump asked people to vote for him, saying "What do you have to lose?"

It would take a book to answer that question. Shorter version: It's a suicide mission for America.

But let's just start with something simple, like how Donald Trump left Atlantic City when he was done with it. [More...]

Comey Gets a Warrant, But it Costs Him His Reputation

"If you got a warrant, I guess you got to come in"

A law enforcement source tells the AP the FBI now has a warrant for Huma Abedin's emails on a computer seized in her husband's sexting investigation.

There are differing accounts in every major news publication about why the FBI wants to look at Huma's emails. None are reliable, all are anonymous leaks.

What is clear is that FBI director James Comey has torpedoed his legacy and the reputation of the F.B.I. See this article by former Deputy Attorney Generals Jamie Gorelick (under Clinton) and Larry Thompson (under Bush) opining Comey has damaged our democracy:[More...]
